ENJOY A CUSTOM SCOTLAND SUMMER ITINERARY

Take advantage of Scotland’s mild weather and long daylight hours in summer to go on the trip of a lifetime. On Scotland summer tours offered by Nordic Visitor from May to September you can enjoy the best of both nature and culture, from breathtaking scenery in the Scottish Highlands to fun-filled summer festivals.

Edinburgh in particular is a lively place this time of year as the capital city hosts some of Scotland’s largest summer festivals, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and other popular events in August. Although the city’s major attractions like the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle attract the largest crowds from June to August, the summer months are ideal for enjoying Edinburgh's outdoor highlights, such as Princes Street Gardens and the scenic viewpoint at Calton Hill.

Of course, with so many things do in summer in Scotland we recommend getting out to the countryside. Want to watch kilted warriors and bagpipers perform at the Highland Games in Scotland? Or maybe do some summer hiking in Scotland at beautiful places like Cairngorms National Park or the Isle of Skye? A road trip in Scotland in summer is an excellent idea! Don’t feel like driving? Then a guided tour of Scotland in summer is the perfect way to enjoy the views while learning about Scottish history and culture from an entertaining local driver-guide.

Experience Scotland your way

SUMMER WEATHER IN SCOTLAND & DAYLIGHT HOURS

The weather in Scotland in summer is mild, with average temperatures ranging from 12 (53°F) to 14 °C (57°F). Nonetheless, in terms of what to pack for Scotland in summer, it’s always a good idea to bring a rain jacket and different layers as you can sometimes experience all four seasons in one day. If you’re planning on doing some short summer hiking tours in Scotland you should also bring good walking shoes or hiking boots.

As for sunrise and sunset times in Scotland in summer, you can expect anywhere from 12 - 17 hours of daylight in the summer months between May and September. This is perfect for sightseeing during the day and enjoying the warm Scottish hospitality at night with some gourmet Scottish food and perhaps a taste of local whisky. If the latter appeals to you, why not take a summer whisky tour in Scotland

BEST PLACES TO GO IN SCOTLAND IN SUMMER

In Scotland, Highland summer tours are the most popular holidays. On a Highlands tour during summer in Scotland lasting a week or more, you can experience many of the country’s most famous attractions. With overnights in the Fort William, Inverness and Loch Lomond areas you can explore highlights like Loch Ness, Eilean Donan Castle and Glencoe. With about 10 - 12 days, extend your summer tour of the Scottish Highlands to other regions, like the popular Isle of Skye in the west and the “Castle Trail” of Aberdeenshire in the east.

For the ultimate Scotland summer road trip, give yourself around 2 weeks to visit lesser-travelled places like the Outer Hebrides (Western Isles), the scenic North Coast 500 route or the Orkney Islands off the north coast.

CUSTOMISED SUMMER TOURS IN SCOTLAND

If you prefer to do the driving in Scotland on your summer vacation, we make it easy for you as all Nordic Visitor self-drive tours include car rentals with free GPS and two authorised drivers so you can share the driving responsibilities with a travel mate.

Have a keen interest in Scottish heritage or particular whisky brands? With a customised private tour of Scotland, you’ll ride in a high-end 4x4 vehicle to your desired sights with your own personal driver-guide.

No matter what kind of trip to Scotland in summer you book, you’ll have your own dedicated travel consultant at Nordic Visitor to make all local travel arrangements for you and advise you on possible customisations. All of our itineraries can be tailored with extra nights, alternative departures or arrivals in Glasgow, day trips from Edinburgh, and more.

I cannot say enough good things about Nordic Visitor

I cannot say enough good things about Nordic Visitor. Information given was thorough, accommodations were very comfortable (very friendly hosts) and tourist sights suggestions were incredibly helpful. Agne did a wonderful job! I highly would recommend her to anyone. If anyone has any doubts about booking with Nordic Visitor I would simply suggest reading the reviews...You'll find that the positive reviews are accurate!

Scottish Highlands & the Isles, August 2018

Had the best time and experience

We had the best time and experience, the self-drive tour was easy to follow and gave us enough structure to see a lot in a small amount of time but still gave us the freedom to explore at our own pace. The restaurant recommendations were really helpful and the places we stayed were so memorable and inviting. It was also great that we had the flexibility to add another day to Edinburgh at the beginning of the trip to explore. I'll highly recommend the tour agency.

North Coast 500 & Orkney, June 2018

Journey was terrific and easy to follow

Agne was extremely helpful and informative when organising the holiday. All travel documents were emailed to us before we left Australia and hard copies were also waiting for us at our first accommodation in Edinburgh. The fold-out map that had been highlighted with route of the journey was terrific and easy to follow.

Thank you again for great memories

We just returned last night from our trip to Scotland and I wanted to let you know what a great trip we had with Nordic Visitor. You were wonderful setting up our requests and I cannot thank you enough for switching our tour dates when we were unable to go as originally planned in May. The hotels and food were brilliant. Brian was magnificent. We could not ask for more of a guide. Even the special trip to see Highland coos. This was our second Nordic Visitor trip and we are now looking into our 3rd for next year. Thank you again for great memories. I am glad we were able to meet you on our first night.

More customizable & more fun adventure

We are thankful we went with Nordic Visitor for our tour of Scotland. We were at each location one hour before all of the tour buses because we had our own car and could get around quicker. More customizable and a more fun adventure.

Will for sure continue to use Nordic Visitor

This is our second time using Nordic Visitor and both times have been absolutely wonderful! The stress of having to book accommodations and arrange car rental and travel from the airport is completely eliminated by utilizing this travel resource. We will for sure continue to use Nordic Visitor and have shared your information and website with many friends and even strangers.

Grand Tour of Scotland, June 2018

Whole experience was a pleasure

I was very impressed with the ease of use and professionalism of Nordic Visitor right from the initial website browsing through online booking, tour confirmation, payment and final documentation. Service from our Travel Consultant (Sarah) was top class and personalized. The guidance given on sites of interest was well researched and fully comprehensive. The whole experience was a pleasure. Well done.

"Above and beyond" service

"Very Good" comes short of describing my trip! This was probably my top, most favorite trip every and I travel a lot. The B&Bs and hotels were excellent and I chose the standard. My itinerary was well planned making it so easy to just enjoy everything. The detailed guide book also was a great help in offering suggestions of thing not to miss. My deepest appreciation to Annie not only for planning this outstanding trip, but also her "above and beyond" service dealing with my luggage which the airline had lost.
