Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to commonly asked questions about visiting Scotland. Our local travel experts have all the latest updates regarding entering and exploring Scotland during the pandemic.

If you’d like more information on our flexible booking policy, discover our Book With Confidence terms.

You can now visit Scotland without needing to quarantine if you are fully vaccinated and coming from any of the following countries:

  • • The USA
  • • Canada
  • • Amber list countries in EU member states
  • • European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries
  • • Microstates of Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City

You will need to carry your vaccine certification with you to provide details of your vaccination status.

For US arrivals, this proof is a CDC card showing you are fully vaccinated, along with proof of residence in the US. All arrivals from Europe must show a record of vaccination through the EU Digital COVID Certificate (DCC).

If the above applies to you, you will be required to take 2 tests for Covid-19 in order to visit Scotland as well as fill in a passenger locator form.

When boarding your plane, you must provide proof of a negative test, taken in the 3 days before you travel. Both PCR tests or lateral flow antigen tests are accepted. You may also be asked to provide proof of a negative test when you arrive in Scotland.

Then, you must take a PCR test within 2 days of arriving in Scotland. You must book your testing kit using the CTM Booking Portal.

Read more about testing requirements for visitors to Scotland on the Scottish government’s website.

In order to qualify as “fully vaccinated”, you must have received your final dose of a Covid-19 vaccine at least 14 days before your arrival in Scotland. This means 14 days after the second dose for Moderna, Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, and after the first and only dose for the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Scotland is using the traffic light system to distinguish the quarantine, self-isolation and testing rules for arrivals from different countries. This is separated into 3 categories:

  • Green
  • Amber
  • Red

Visitors from certain amber list countries (listed in FAQ #1) are exempt from quarantine and self-isolation, provided they are fully vaccinated.

You can find more information about red, amber and green list countries on the Scottish government website.

Children under 18 who normally reside in the UK, EU or US as well as dependents of those vaccinated overseas, do not need to self-isolate.

If your child is aged over 12, the same requirements for testing will apply to them. They’ll need to show proof of a negative test taken 3 days before the flight and take a PCR test within 2 days of your arrival in Scotland. Don’t forget to book their testing kit as well.

Children under 12 do not need to take a test.

There are some health and safety regulations in Scotland that are in place to protect everyone.

The main requirements that you should adhere to are:

  • Frequent hand washing and sanitising.
  • Social distancing.
  • Wearing a face mask.

All visitors are advised to follow local restrictions in place at the time of visiting. Should you develop symptoms of Covid-19 during your travels, you would be required to take a PCR test.

If you have cancellation insurance with us, your payment is protected. This means that, if you need to cancel because of Covid-19 related reasons, you will never lose the money you’ve paid to us.

Should you test positive for Covid-19 before your trip, you can rebook your tour, on one occasion, without incurring any change fees. Or you can receive a refund of 80% of the total value of your booking, and a 20% travel credit towards a future tour with Nordic Visitor.

Don’t hesitate to contact your Nordic Visitor travel consultant if you feel unwell in the lead up to your trip. They will do everything they can to support you during this time.

Your dedicated travel consultant will inform you of any changes in national guidelines, should they occur.

If tighter restrictions are put in place in Scotland, your consultant will make adjustments to your itinerary, where necessary. They may need to amend the route or make some other changes. You would not be charged any additional fees if rearrangements had to be made.

Should they need to make changes to your itinerary, your personal consultant will do everything to make sure you still have a special travel experience.

Your personal travel consultant will explain all the details of your tour before you book. Afterwards, if any changes must be made to your itinerary due to Covid-19, they will contact you to make you aware of this.

Rest assured you will not make any financial losses if this is the case. You’ll receive appropriate upgrades or alternative tour options to make up for any changes.

For example, if a particular castle or distillery you wanted to visit is not open, you will be provided with some good alternative suggestions.

What our customers say

Discover what our amazing clients, who travelled during the pandemic, thought about their experience with Nordic Visitor.

We had such an amazing holiday! First time booking a self-drive holiday, but we were put at easy with such great organisation and communication from our very own travel consultant. […] The journey was well planned out, the itinerary was amazing!

- Alice & Jay, visited Scotland
From start to finish they were flexible about the dates, happy to reorganise locations (due to Covid fears) and our own personal preference. We would definitely consider booking another trip through Nordic again.

- Nathalie, visited Scotland
What a fantastic trip, to such a unique and beautiful island! […] All the arrangements worked perfectly, and the detailed and personalised itinerary prepared by Nordic Visitor was much appreciated. We also loved all the hotels and guesthouses that we stayed in, and the food was uniformly great. Everywhere felt very Covid safe and conscious, and the arrival and departure formalities were fine. Fantastic trip!

- Ian, visited Iceland
