Frequently Asked Questions

Below you’ll find answers to commonly asked questions about visiting Scotland. Our local travel experts have all the latest updates regarding entering and exploring Scotland during the pandemic.

If you’d like more information on our flexible booking policy, discover our Book With Confidence terms.

You can now visit Scotland without needing to quarantine if you are fully vaccinated. To enter Scotland, you will need to carry your vaccine certification with you to provide details of your vaccination status.

For US arrivals, this proof is a CDC card showing you are fully vaccinated, along with proof of residence in the US. All arrivals from Europe must show a record of vaccination through the EU Digital COVID Certificate (DCC).

If you were not vaccinated in Scotland, the US or a country covered by the European Digital Covid certificate, check the government website for what proof you’ll need from other countries.

If you are fully vaccinated, you will be required to fill in a passenger locator form and take a test within 2 days of your entry in Scotland.

Everyone aged 11 and over must take a Covid-19 day 2 test. You can book a PCR test using the CTM Booking Portal or buy a PCR or lateral flow test from a private provider.

If you are not fully vaccinated, in addition to the above, you will need to take a test prior to your arrival in Scotland, book day 2 and day 8 PCR tests while in Scotland, and isolate for 10 days.

Read more about testing requirements for visitors to Scotland on the Scottish government’s website.

In order to qualify as “fully vaccinated”, you must have received your final dose of a Covid-19 vaccine at least 14 days before your arrival in Scotland. This means 14 days after the second dose for Moderna, Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, and after the first and only dose for the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Children under 18 who normally reside in the UK, EU or US, or country with a UK-approved vaccination programme, don't need to show proof of vaccination and are counted as fully vaccinated.

Children aged 11 and over must also take a day 2 test. Children under 11 do not need to take a test.

There are some health and safety regulations in Scotland that are in place to protect everyone.

The main requirements that you should adhere to are:

  • Frequent hand washing and sanitising.
  • Social distancing.
  • Wearing a face mask indoors.

All visitors are advised to follow local restrictions in place at the time of visiting. Should you develop symptoms of Covid-19 during your travels, you would be required to take a PCR test.

Read more about how you can stay safe during your tour with Nordic Visitor and Travel With Confidence.

If you have cancellation insurance with us, your payment is protected.

Should you test positive for Covid-19 more than 72 hours before your trip, you can rebook your tour, on one occasion, without incurring any change fees. Or you can receive a refund of 80% of the total value of your booking, and a 20% travel credit towards a future tour with Nordic Visitor.

Should you test positive for Covid-19 with less than 72 hours before your trip, you'll receive a refund of 50% and the remaining 50% will be held as travel credit.

Don’t hesitate to contact your Nordic Visitor travel consultant if you feel unwell in the lead up to your trip. They will do everything they can to support you during this time.

Read the details of our cancellation insurance in our Book With Confidence terms.

If you do not have cancellation insurance with us, normal booking terms apply and we recommend you check with your private travel insurance provider.

Your dedicated travel consultant will inform you of any changes in national guidelines, should they occur.

If tighter restrictions are put in place in Scotland, your consultant will make adjustments to your itinerary, where necessary. They may need to amend the route or make some other changes. You would not be charged any additional fees if rearrangements had to be made.

Should they need to make changes to your itinerary, your personal consultant will do everything to make sure you still have a special travel experience.

Your personal travel consultant will explain all the details of your tour before you book. Afterwards, if any changes must be made to your itinerary due to Covid-19, they will contact you to make you aware of this.

Rest assured you will not make any financial losses if this is the case. You’ll receive appropriate upgrades or alternative tour options to make up for any changes.

For example, if a particular castle or distillery you wanted to visit is not open, you will be provided with some good alternative suggestions.

What our customers say

Discover what our amazing clients, who travelled during the pandemic, thought about their experience with Nordic Visitor.

We had such an amazing holiday! First time booking a self-drive holiday, but we were put at easy with such great organisation and communication from our very own travel consultant. […] The journey was well planned out, the itinerary was amazing!

- Alice & Jay, visited Scotland
From start to finish they were flexible about the dates, happy to reorganise locations (due to Covid fears) and our own personal preference. We would definitely consider booking another trip through Nordic again.

- Nathalie, visited Scotland
We had a fantastic 15 night Complete Scotland Tour arranged by Rebecca at Nordic Visitor and everything was absolutely faultless. The planning, organisation and skill that went into preparing and booking the whole trip was excellent [...].
