Visit this tranquil forest and National Trust-protected site for its many species of conifers, notably Douglas-fir, and some of the tallest trees in Scotland.
The Hermitage is a wonderful place for a walk in the woods. This tranquil forest and National Trust-protected site contains many species of conifers, notably Douglas-fir, and some of the tallest trees in Scotland. It is also home to Ossian's Cave and Ossian's Hall of Mirrors, a folly of sliding panels, secret handles and mirrored artwork to recreate the illusions of shock, surprise and amazement.
Many visitor trails are found here, including an easy 1 km pathway to Ossian’s Hall, and if you visit in autumn you will be rewarded with some of the most vibrant fall colours you’ve ever seen.
