Visit this tranquil forest and National Trust-protected site for its many species of conifers, notably Douglas-fir, and some of the tallest trees in Scotland.

The Hermitage is a wonderful place for a walk in the woods. This tranquil forest and National Trust-protected site contains many species of conifers, notably Douglas-fir, and some of the tallest trees in Scotland. It is also home to Ossian's Cave and Ossian's Hall of Mirrors, a folly of sliding panels, secret handles and mirrored artwork that to recreate the illusions of shock, surprise and amazement.

You'll find many forest trails here, including an easy 1 km pathway leading to Ossian’s Hall. Plus, if you visit in autumn you will be rewarded with some of the most vibrant fall colours you’ve ever seen. Meanwhile, fans of Outlander may recognise these woodlands which featured in the hit TV series.
