Itinerary

A day-by-day plan to guide your journey.

  • Day 1: Welcome to Scotland

When you arrive in Scotland, make your way into Edinburgh city centre where your hotel will be located. Many travellers opt to take a taxi or use public transport, but for a more direct and comfortable ride, we will be happy to organise a private airport transfer for you.

For those arriving early in the day, we recommend spending the afternoon walking through the city, especially in the New Town. Walk along grand Georgian streets, lined with shops and restaurants, or stroll through the Princes Street Gardens sitting right below the iconic Edinburgh Castle.

Tonight you can enjoy dinner at one of Edinburgh’s many gourmet restaurants and spend the evening at your leisure.

  • Day 2: Secrets of the Royal Mile & Edinburgh Castle

Today you have the morning to spend at your leisure to enjoy the city. You could visit some of Edinburgh’s many museums, such as the Scottish National Gallery.

This afternoon, you’ll join a guided group walk of Edinburgh’s Old Town to immerse yourself in the history of Scotland’s capital. You’ll learn all about the royals, artists and everyday folks who have called Edinburgh home throughout the centuries. Afterwards, you’ll skip the line at Edinburgh Castle to explore this iconic landmark.

  • Day 3: Loch Ness, Glen Coe & the Highlands

Today you’ll join a day trip into the Highlands to immerse yourself in the beauty of Scotland’s nature and storied past. Board a minibus along with a small group of fellow travellers and a local guide who will share their insight with you.

You’re in for a packed day of discoveries, photos and incredible sights. The tour will pass by the famous Loch Ness, where you'll enjoy a scenic cruise, the impressive Glen Coe and the sweeping Rannoch Moor.

Along the way, you’ll get to admire the peaks of the Cairngorms National Park, the enchanting forest of Highland Perthshire and more.

This day trip is around 12 hours long, starting at 8 AM and coming back in Edinburgh at 8 PM. You can also decide to switch to a shorter tour into the West Highlands in the optional extras (free of charge).

  • Day 4: Enjoy Edinburgh at your leisure

Today you have a free day to do as you please in Edinburgh. Enjoy more of the city, its attractions and sights. Walk up Calton Hill or Arthur’s Seat to get a panoramic view over the city. Or you could book an optional tour. Visit the Royal Britannia ship, try a whisky experience or head out of town on an Outlander-themed excursion.

You could also decide to go explore Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow. In the optional extras, you could even switch your last night to Glasgow if that’s more convenient for your flight home.

  • Day 5: Departure from Scotland

Now it’s time to say goodbye to Edinburgh. We recommend taking the Airlink bus or a taxi directly from your hotel to reach the airport. If you would like to add any additional nights to your trip or to arrange a private transfer, you can do so during the booking process. If your flight is in the afternoon, you may have time for some last-minute shopping, to visit one of Edinburgh’s museums, or take one last stroll through the charming city centre.

Tour Information

We recommend that you read through the following useful information about travelling in Scotland, what the tour includes, accommodation, and more.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR MULTI-DAY TOURS
All accommodations and planned activities (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor. This is a self-guided tour, with no dedicated tour guide for the duration of your stay. For each planned activity, you can expect a different tour operator and guide. You will have free time between activities. Nordic Visitor works with a small group of handpicked suppliers that are highly rated and deliver excellent service that meet our high standards.

INCLUSIONS ON YOUR HIGHLAND GUIDED TOUR
On your day trip to Loch Ness, Glen Coe & the Highlands, you’ll have the chance to see much of Scotland’s top highlights. That said, it’s good to note that entrances are not included on this tour. The cruise on Loch Ness is included but for other attractions, entrance fees will be at your own expense.

You will also be responsible for bringing water and snacks on the tour, and for buying lunch during the day (there will be time to buy lunch on the trip).

TRANSFERS TO/FROM ACTIVITIES
Please note that transfers are not included between your hotel and tour meeting locations. Edinburgh is a very walkable city, but you could also take a city bus or book a taxi.

ADD-ONS & OPTIONAL UPGRADES
Travellers can add on selected optional activities when booking online. You can also choose to upgrade part of your itinerary depending on your needs and interests, such as switching to a privately guided tour from a standard guided tour. It is also possible to add extra nights to extend your stay.

Just get in touch with us if you can’t find what you have in mind in the booking process. We’ll do our best to customize your package, subject to availability.

TRAVEL SEASONS IN SCOTLAND
Scotland is beautiful all year long, but we want travellers to be aware that the summer is the high travelling season, with July and August being the peak months. For that reason, many of the highlights, such as Edinburgh and the Isle of Skye, will be extremely popular and offer limited availability, for attractions, accommodations, restaurants and tours alike.

For a more relaxing experience, we recommend booking well in advance or arriving during the shoulder season, from April to June or September and October. However, if you wish to travel in July or August, we will endeavour to make this a great adventure.

ACCOMMODATION
Our team of local travel experts carefully selects hotels, B&Bs, and guesthouses around the country based on excellent ratings, personal experience and comfort. Generally, in Scotland, whilst room sizes may vary, our room types are based on European standard sizes.

Please note that twin rooms, triple and family rooms are not commonly available in Scotland, so please contact us for booking assistance if that is something you would like. Please also be aware that, due to the historic nature of the properties we usually select, most of the rooms are only accessible by going up stairs, as there are often no lifts available. Please contact us if you are not able to walk up stairs.

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE FROM GLASGOW
If you are planning on arriving in Glasgow, you could book a private transfer from Glasgow Airport to your accommodation in Edinburgh to start your journey in a comfortable way. During certain tours, you will have the options to end your trip in Glasgow, rather than Edinburgh, as well if that is more convenient for you.

SAFETY & WEATHER CONDITIONS
Please note that sightseeing and tours are dependent on weather and road conditions and might need to be altered if conditions are not favourable. If something unexpected occurs, you can call our 24-hour helpline to speak directly with our local Nordic Visitor staff.

CURRENCY RATE
All bookings are charged in British Pounds (£, GBP). Prices displayed in other currencies are indicative only and based on the daily exchange rate. Therefore, conversions from GBP to other currencies will fluctuate from day to day.

AFTER BOOKING WITH NORDIC VISITOR
After booking your package with Nordic Visitor, you will be contacted within two business days by one of our travel consultants who will serve as your dedicated contact person for all your travel needs before, during and even after your holiday. Your travel consultant will provide you with details about your booking and your remaining payment (if not paid in full). You will also receive more information about what to expect during your holiday.
