What to expect regarding wireless access and mobile coverage in the UK
Most coffee shops and public houses in Edinburgh and other major towns offer Wi-Fi access to customers, though not always for free. Likewise, many hotels and B&B’s throughout the UK offer internet access, sometimes at extra cost. Many of the larger tourist offices across the country do offer free internet access, and in Edinburgh the Airport-link and public transport buses and trams offer free Wi-Fi.
For connection on the go, most UK telecoms providers offer pre-paid plans for mobile broadband access, which can be purchased at many newsagents and convenience shops. Just keep in mind that 3G coverage is poor in the rural areas, so you may not be able to connect outside of the larger towns and villages. In this case, just enjoy nature without modern distractions.
