Robin Hood’s Bay is a postcard-perfect village on the Yorkshire coastline. From the car parks in the “upper village” on the cliff top you can walk down the winding cobbled streets of the “old village”, admiring the red-roofed stone cottages on your way to the sandy beach below. At low tide, the beach is popular with fossil hunters and shell collectors. Then take a break at one of the cosy pubs, cafés or restaurants before the walk back up the cliff.
Although the name Robin Hood’s Bay did not originate from the legendary outlaw, the village was in fact a thriving smuggling port in the 18 century due to its naturally isolated location.
