Little & Great Langdale

Just west of the town of Ambleside are the beautiful valleys of Little Langdale and Great Langdale. You can take both in on a circular 11-mile (17.8 km) drive starting from the small village of Skelwith Bridge. This scenic route takes you past the village of Elterwater, the hamlet of Great Langdale and the historic Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, then climbs up to Blea Tarn — a picture-perfect small mountain lake — and descends again to the hamlet of Little Langdale before ending back in Skelwith Bridge.

There are great views around every corner here and plenty of opportunities for walks, most notably the easy 1.8 mile (2.9 km) loop around the Sticklebarn Blea Tarn trail or the more challenging 4.1 mile (6.6 km) hike up the hills of Lingmoor Fell and Side Pike.
