Experience Scotland your way

We have tours for all varieties of travel styles and interests. See our options for exploring Scotland below.

CUSTOM ROAD TRIPS IN SCOTLAND

Want to explore on your own? Nordic Visitor’s self-drive tour packages include a rental car, accommodations and everything else you need for an amazing Scotland road trip. You’ll know exactly where you’re driving each day — and which optional attractions are nearby — with your very own personalised itinerary and Scotland travel guide booklet. We also provide you with a hand-marked map of Scotland and our 24/7 helpline.

Many of our self-drive tour packages start from Edinburgh and loop around the Scottish Highlands, with overnights in popular places such as St Andrews, Inverness, Skye, Fort William and the Loch Lomond area. With about 10 days or more, you can build on this route with stays in locations such as the Orkney islands, the Western Isles, the Cairngorms National Park and the “Castle Trail” area of Aberdeenshire. If you have 2 weeks or more, you can do the grand tour of Scotland, taking in the major sights of the east coast, the Highlands, Orkney, and both the Inner and Outer Hebrides. The possibilities are endless with a customised road trip in Scotland!

BESPOKE GUIDED TOURS IN SCOTLAND

Want to travel with a local guide on your own customised route? Nordic Visitor’s privately-guided tours offer the flexibility of a self-drive tour but without the driving. Riding in a premium 4x4 jeep driven by your private guide, you’ll be able to visit many of Scotland’s top attractions -- such as Eilean Donan castle, Glen Coe, Glenfinnan Viaduct and more -- as well the lesser known gems that only the locals know about. Private tours are fully customisable and are great options for those who have specific interests in Scottish heritage, Scotch whisky or Outlander filming locations, for example.

TAILOR-MADE ITINERARIES IN SCOTLAND

All of our itineraries -- both guided and self-drive -- can be tailored by our local experts with extra nights, day trips from Edinburgh, day tours in other areas and more. Here are some ideas for customising your Scotland tour:

  • Need some extra days to rest? We can add extra nights of accommodation in your arrival or departure city, typically Edinburgh, so you can rest up for the journey ahead. We can even modify your itinerary if you’re flying in or out of Glasgow.
  • Want to slow down the pace? Scotland is a country you don’t want to rush through. If you want more time for hiking, photography, sightseeing or just plain relaxing, we can add extra days or modify your tour accordingly.
  • Planning a honeymoon? Enjoy a stress-free, customised self-drive tour in Scotland, with special touches like champagne at your first accommodation and overnights in romantic settings such as Georgian-style boutique hotels and elegant Highland lodges.

No matter how you’d like to tailor your trip to Scotland, you’ll have your own dedicated travel consultant at Nordic Visitor to advise you on possible add-ons and make all local travel arrangements for you.

A positive experience, beginning to end!

This tour was a positive experience for us, beginning to end. The planning by Nordic Visitor was complete, thoughtful, and worked flawlessly. Scotland was stunning and most interesting - we just wish we had more time. To Nordic Visitor: Great Job! We'll be back!

Grand Tour of Scotland, June 2019

Everything ran as smoothly as clockwork!

My husband and I wanted to hire a car and travel extensively throughout northern Scotland which included the Orkney Islands, and the other beautiful islands in far northern Scotland. From the day we contacted Agne Dobrovolskyte at Nordic Visitor, everything ran as smoothly as clockwork! Agne knew exactly what we wanted;  all the Bed & Breakfast places she booked on our behalf right throughout Scotland were absolutely perfect, centrally located near all facilities, managed by wonderful, friendly hosts and included delicious, plentiful breakfasts. The car Agne booked for us was reliable and the perfect (compact) size to negotiate the narrow, single lane roads you frequently experience in northern Scotland (especially on the northern Scottish islands). Agne gave us the benefit of her experience of Scotland with wonderful suggestions on what to see and do - suggestions and advice that we were glad we followed. Everything Agne did and organised, made our road trip throughout the beautiful country of Scotland a wonderful and memorable experience. For anyone wanting to deal with a high-achieving travel company that is absolutely professional and efficient, we highly recommend Nordic Visitor and, in particular, Agne Dobrovolskyte, who proved to be a very competent, friendly and knowledgeable travel agent. Thank you, Agne!"

Express Scotland, July 2019

Nothing but great words to say about Nordic Visitor!

We were thrilled with all of our accommodations. All hosts/hostesses were very friendly and we felt very welcomed. The rental car service was also very good and thorough. And we felt as though everyone had a good working relationship as the businesses had nothing but great words to say about Nordic Visitor so we felt good that everyone was working together to make our visit a great one!

Grand Tour of Scotland, August 2019

Excellent information and documents!

Having used another tour company for Ireland and England just before this section of our trip I can say with one hundred percent truth that your information and documents were excellent! When we saw a paper map was included and daily ideas for the itinerary we were so happy. We didn't need electricity or wifi, we could just look at the map! An overall view like that was so much easier to use.

Express Scotland, May 2019

Explore family ancestry

We went to explore family ancestry, I inquired with several different companies and Sarah was the only one to reply with information, and stops in the itinerary on the Clan Comyns. She did her homework to plan our trip.

Kim

Scottish Highlands & West Coast, October 2019

Wonderful accommodations!

The accommodations mapped out for us were wonderful. All were 3star or higher rated B&Bs and they were all centrally located to attractions and historic landmarks we wanted to see. That fact alone made it really easy for us to walk or drive A short distance to sites or activities we were interested in doing on the trip, which made the experience very enjoyable. Both taxi services hired to pick us up and drop us off from the airport we're amazing as well. The taxi driver picking us up was especially helpful and even gave us a brief driving tour of Edinburgh the first day we arrived.

Jim

Scottish Highlands, May 2019

Worry-free travel experience!

Our agent, Agne, did a wonderful job dealing with us. All questions were answered and her trip planning resulted in one of our most enjoyable and worry free travel experiences.

Kirsty

The Castle Trail & Scottish Highlands, June 2019

Professional, organised and helpful!

Our entire trip included two weeks in Scotland and two weeks in Europe. During our travels we raved about Nordic Visitor and how professional, organised and helpful you are. It was so well organised and every little detail was covered so we could relax and enjoy our holiday without any concerns. I am really really impressed and would recommend your company (and Annie) without hesitation!
