A little slice of the Caribbean in Scotland
If beaches aren't one of the first things that come to mind when you think of Scotland, wait until you see Luskentyre Beach in person. The drive will take you down the west coast of southern Harris on the narrow, winding scenic road, past little cottages and farms, along miles of white sandy beaches and crystal-clear turquoise waters reminiscent of the Caribbean. Considered one of the best beaches in Britain, Travel Magazine also named it among the top beaches in the world.
This secluded beach may not be a top sunbathing spot (temperature averages 7°C) but it's a fabulous place for a walk at low tide. Another worthwhile stop on the same stretch of road is the golden sand beach of Scarista, offering beautiful views of the Harris Hills.
