Visit the dramatic and spectacular Smoo Cave that is tucked away in the limestone cliffs of the Geodha Smoo inlet.
Situated just east of Durness, the dramatic and spectacular Smoo Cave can be found tucked away in the limestone cliffs of the Geodha Smoo inlet. It boasts one of the largest entrances to any sea cave in Britain at about 15 metres high, allowing natural light to beautifully illuminate the spacious moss-covered main chamber. From the main chamber, a wooden walkway leads to a viewing platform in the smaller second chamber, where a waterfall pours down from a sinkhole.
Further inside the cave is a network of longer internal caverns and tunnels, which can be accessed on guided boat tours during the summer. But, if you just want to peek inside the cave and look at the waterfall, it can be reached via the path from the car park on the cliffs.
