Visit the ruins of the 15th century Ardvreck Castle, which are said to be haunted by two ghosts.
If you feel a chill here, it might not be from the cold. The ruins of the 15th-century Ardvreck Castle are said to be haunted by two ghosts, a tall man dressed in grey and a young girl, both linked to the infamous Clan MacCleod, the original ruling family of the castle.
The nearby ruins of Calda House are allegedly haunted as well, with the lost souls linked to the Clan MacKenzie, who seized control of the castle and surrounding grounds in 1672.
The castle is located in a strunning location, on a rocky piece of land that juts out into Loch Assynt. Legend has it that a mermaid inhabits the loch, and her tears are said to be the cause of the occasional rise in water levels.
Thankfully for most visitors to this castle, the only goosebumps come from taking in the mystical beauty of the crumbling structure set amongst the hills.
