Visit Dundee, Scotland's first UNESCO City of Design, which is a compact centre of both history and modern culture.
Scotland's fourth-largest city, Dundee is historically famous for being the home of the RRS Discovery, the Antarctic exploration vessel of Robert Falcon Scott. The ship was the last traditional three-masted wooden ship to be built in the United Kingdom, and is berthed in the city to this day.
Once a proud shipyard and home to several port-driven industries, Dundee was affected by the decline of traditional industy in the 20th century. But recently, the city has reinvented itself as a cultural centre. It was recognised as the UK's first UNESCO City of Design in 2014.
And the V&A Dundee museum, opened in 2018, is the first Victoria and Albert museum outside London.
Beyond these recent developments, Dundee has always enjoyed an industrious and creative role in Scotland's history, with important contributions in the fields of journalism and publishing, early computing, and jute manufacturing.
