Experience Scotland your way

We have tours for all varieties of travel styles and interests. See our options for exploring Scotland below.

HOW & WHEN TO TRAVEL TO SCOTLAND FROM AUSTRALIA

Nordic Visitor’s self-drive tours from April to October are the best options for holidays that are longer than 8 - 10 days or for travellers who want more flexibility for hiking, sightseeing and photography. For the best Scotland summer weather, book your trip between June and August. Shorter road trips are also available in Scotland’s winter months, November to March. As in Australia, motorists in Scotland also drive on the left.

If you don’t want to do the driving, or if you’re travelling solo in Scotland, then a privately guided tour, available year-round, or a guided small group tour from May to September are both wonderful options. In particular, guided holiday packages of Scotland are perfect for travellers from Australia who have Scottish ancestry or an interest in whisky tasting.

WHAT TO SEE ON HOLIDAYS TO SCOTLAND FROM AUSTRALIA

As a country with over 6,000 miles of coastline, rugged Highlands, idyllic lowlands, charming villages, historic cities and numerous islands (isles) off the north and west coasts, there are many routes from Edinburgh that you could follow to see Scotland’s top attractions. It all depends on the sights you prefer, your length of stay and the pace of your travel.

Under a week: Perhaps you’re planning to visit the UK for a rugby match and want to tour the Highlands of Scotland as well? If so, give yourself at least 4 - 5 days to see the top Highland attractions in the Inverness, Fort William and Loch Lomond areas. Want to visit some islands? Then spend at least 6 days to travel hrough the Scottish Highlands to the Isle of Skye or -- if you’re a whisky fan -- the Oban and Isle of Mull area. On this express Scotland route you can visit Loch Ness, Glen Coe, Eilean Donan Castle and much more.

1 - 2 weeks: To make the most of your long distance trip, we recommend that Australia-to-Scotland trips last at least 10 days. In addition to touring the Highlands and Skye, you could travel up Scotland’s beautiful east coast to the famous university city of St Andrews and the “Castle Trail” region of Aberdeenshire. In 12 days or more you can extend your route to the history-rich Orkney Islands, the scenic North Coast 500 or the pristine islands of Harris and Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

2 - 3 weeks: In 17 - 21 days you can do the ultimate Scotland tour by car, on a route including the east coast, Highlands and many of the major islands.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN SCOTLAND TOUR PACKAGES FROM AUSTRALIA

Guided tours are Nordic Visitor’s most inclusive travel packages and come packed with perks like pre-paid entrance fees to attractions, whisky tastings at award-winning distilleries and some group dinners with gourmet Scottish cuisine. Tour groups are limited to 16 travellers and you’ll ride comfortably in a premium mini-coach that can navigate the narrow rural roads with ease.

As for road trips, you'll have your choice of car hire type and everything else you need for a hassle-free driving holiday, including pre-arranged accommodations, a personalised itinerary and our own Scotland travel guide booklet. We’ll also provide you with a hand-marked map of Scotland and our own 24/7 helpline for extra assurance on the road.

TRIPS TO SCOTLAND FROM AUSTRALIA FOR SPECIAL OCCASIONS

Want to add a few personal touches to your Scotland holiday from Australia? All of Nordic Visitor’s Scotland tour packages can be tailored by our local experts with extra nights at select locations, arrivals or departures in alternative Scottish cities, day tours in Edinburgh, and more. We can even a tailor an itinerary for a Scotland honeymoon from Australia or arrange bespoke Scottish heritage tours for Australians with ancestral roots in Scotland.

Highly recommend Nordic Visitor

This is our second tour with Nordic Visitor. Agents used before the tour were always very prompt with responses to our questions. During the tour, we found the accommodation perfect, guide very informative and friendly, and the driver got used to where we needed to go without any problems. We would definitely use Nordic Visitor again!

Smooth experience

Throughout the years we have travelled a lot, but never with a group tour. This trip was our first time and it did not disappoint. The tour guide, the bus driver, our fellow passengers, the weather, accommodation, variety of activities, and how smoothly everything went makes me question why we never toured like this before!

An unforgettable holiday

It was an unforgettable holiday. They took care of everything, and we got to wonder and explore with little hassle. If you want to visit Scotland (or anywhere else Nordic Visitor has tours) they are the way to do it. Already talking about our next adventure with Nordic Visitor.

An indescribably fantastic experience!

We are two middle-aged women who had never been to the UK before. My sister-in-law always wanted to go to Scotland, so I started researching and came upon Nordic Visitor through internet searches. I checked for reviews and found the company to be highly recommended. I started corresponding with Kirsten. She was extremely kind, very helpful and was able to put my nervous mind at ease. The package she put together for us was perfect! From my first email, the airport pick up and drop off service, and the tour with Dave, it was an indescribably fantastic experience!

Top notch

The tour package materials were top notch. Spiral bound itinerary, recommended activities, restaurant recommendations and the large-scale road map of Scotland were a nice touch. Magdalena, our Nordic Visitor representative, responded promptly to our questions. Accomodation was all great.

Perfect vacation!

For our 50th wedding anniversary, we trusted Nordic Visitor to make our vacation a memorable one, and they made it beyond special. Chris, our tour planner, did everything to accommodate our needs and answered our questions quickly. It was an absolutely perfect vacation!

We were in good hands

As first-time visitors to Edinburgh, and senior citizens, our choice to use Nordic Visitor was an excellent one. The welcome package we received at the hotel was really helpful, with our tour vouchers, maps and restaurant recommendations. We would not have known what hotel to select and the one selected for us was perfect. The choice of tours offered was perfect for a 5-day visit. So glad to learn about the Royal Mile and visit the castle. The trip through the Highlands and Loch Ness was beautiful. Our travel agent, Rebecca, always quickly responded to email questions prior to departure. Thank you! Nordic Visitor made our trip easy and rewarding. We were in good hands.

Highly professional service

Nordic Visitor is a highly professional tour company. From beginning to end, we have no complaints. Our travel consultant, Chris, was very quick to answer all our questions from start to finish. Could not be more pleased.

Research Your Holiday

Start preparing for your trip by doing some research before your Scottish adventure.

Flights to Scotland from Australia

The two biggest international airports in Scotland are in Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, and in Edinburgh, the usual starting point for Nordic Visitor tours. Tours of England and Scotland from Australia typically require one or two connecting flights, usually at major airports such as Dubai, Doha (Qatar), Singapore and London Heathrow.

Some of the largest airlines with flights from Australia to Scotland include (but are not limited to) Emirates, Qantas and Qatar Airways. We recommend checking with the airlines for flight availability and timetables. Flights are not included in Nordic Visitor packages.

How far is Scotland from Australia? The distance is roughly 15,182 km (9,434 miles), thus the Australia to Scotland flight time can be lengthy with the airport layovers. To give you an estimate, a one-stop flight from Sydney to Edinburgh can take 25 hours or longer, depending on the duration of the connection(s).

What is the time difference between Australia and Scotland? The UK is on the GMT time zone, so Sydney and Melbourne are 11 hours ahead of Scotland and Perth is 8 hours ahead of Scotland time. To give yourself a fresh start for your Scotland holiday package from Australia, your Nordic Visitor travel consultant may advise adding an extra day or two in Edinburgh on arrival.

Our Services

Whether you travel independently or with a guide in your Nordic Visitor package, you will receive personalised service from a designated travel consultant and high-quality travel documents. What's more, all self-drive clients receive a hand-marked map that outlines the driving route, overnights and highlights along the way.
