Ambleside is one of the Lake District’s most popular resort towns with its timeless atmosphere and lively town centre offering an assortment of shops, pubs and restaurants. Characterised by quaint Victorian stone houses and narrow winding streets, it’s the perfect base for exploring the central and southern part of the region, including nearby Lake Windermere.

For other picture-perfect sights around town, take a short walk to the beautiful waterfall Stock Ghyll Force or visit one of the most photographed scenes of the Lake District — the 17th century Bridge House that straddles the river Stock Ghyll. Owned by the National Trust, entry is free.
